Snowshoeing.

Over the Winter break I was lucky enough to travel back home and visit family in Vancouver.  I’ll admit, growing up in Vancouver I definitely took the mountains for granted.  It wasn’t until I moved away to Toronto that I realized how amazing it was to drive just 30 minutes and be in the heart of a mountain.  So every time I get the opportunity to travel back to Vancouver, I make an effort to head up for some type of adventure.

This year I decided to try snowshoeing for the first time!  I was surprised how inexpensive snowshoe rentals were, only costing $15 from MEC which is 1/2 the price versus renting up at the mountain.  We decided to head up to Cypress Mountain and do an easy trek up to Bowen Lookout.  The views were amazing heading up to the lookout, like a Winter Wonderland from a movie or storybook.  Some key things we wore on the Winter hike were a pair of tights, hiking boots, toques, gloves and winter jackets.   Even though the weather was chilly, we all found ourselves taking off a layer or a scarf as our bodies began to warm up from the trek, so make sure you don’t bundle up too much!  I had an awesome time exploring the mountains and would highly recommend snowshoeing to anyone that hasn’t done it before.
