Last week I decided to tackle a new bake by making some homemade bagels. I was surprised how easy they were to make! The hardest part was boiling the bagels, especially since the largest pot I could find in my apartment could only boil 2 bagels at a time. The recipe I used was called Homemade Pretzel Bagels from the Half Baked Harvest website. I luckily still have some active yeast in my fridge, so I modified the recipe and used that instead of instant yeast. I also used honey versus molasses, as I wanted to create multiple flavoured bagels versus just a salted pretzel bagel. I was SUPER happy with how the bagels turned out! They had a great chewy texture while still being soft and fluffy inside.
The only thing I would change when I make this recipe again would be to find a bigger pot to boil the bagels! The 2 bagels squished up a bit in the pot and lost the perfect roundness I had shaped them into. Oh and I would’ve made more cheese bagels & cinnamon brown sugar bagels instead of just the plain salted ones :)
RECIPE (10 bagels)

How I modified:
– Used active yeast vs. instant yeast
– Used honey vs molasses
– 3 different flavour toppings (Salt & Pumpkin Seeds, Shredded Old Cheddar Cheese, Brown Sugar & Cinnamon)
Oh my goodness these look amazing! I seriously need to give it a try!
